- What impact has there been on how the media institution now has to produce the texts and the way in which the texts/ products are distributed and exhibited? This should involve a detailed textual analysis of at least 3 texts to demonstrate the point.
The Facebook instituition produces their texts differently now by letting other organisations such as the BBC to create their own pages .This is the same for Twitter who have enabled other institutions such as ITV to have their own twitter page which enables audiences to post up their own comments essentially via 'tweets' . As well as this newspapers have been able to publish celebrity tweets onto their sites and print newspapers for the consumer to see . This means that the level of privacy has gone down considerably for celebrities . The text has to suit its target audience in the case of Facebook no child under the age of 13 can have an account this is due to privacy settings and the danger of a child being tricked by dirty minded adults to exploitation purposes . The same is with twitter . The globalisation of the internet has meant that instituions are easy accessible from a wide range of different countries , this means that it has a wider taret reach in order to attract even more customers and institutions which are operating there . As well as this people are more aware politically of any events that take place for example the Arab Uprising which is still continuing , this has led to the Arab people posting up comments on to Twitter and Facebook as well as using Youtube to post up videos of what has been going on , which some institutions such as the BBC have used to their advantage .
Intel appears to have concluded that the primary barrier to joining the volunteer computing grid isn't necessarily the ease of use, but rather the public awareness. So, it's taking things to where the users are, setting up a Facebook page that offers one-stop shopping for client downloads, a discussion forum, FAQ, etc. All of that should, in theory, make it easier for people to get on board with BOINC.
Diaspora is intended to be installed on a webserver, with every installation serving as a node in a peer-to-peer network – a complete reversal of the centralised model that Facebook and similar systems currently work on. Most of the current objections I’m seeing hinge on the fact that the majority of SocNet users don’t yet have their own server and domain name, and aren’t technologically able to maintain one themselves: the former is a matter of cost, and the price of webhosting is falling constantly; the latter is a matter of demand, and the turnkey installation scripts for software like WordPress which are available from many bargain basement hosting outfits suggests that, if the demand increases, the barriers to entry will lower rapidly.
The practice, however, seems to be something else entirely. If you're among the 17 people who still haven't started a Facebook account, you'll find the Progress Through Processors site a confusing maze that demands you log in to Facebook at seemingly random intervals, bringing progress to a dead halt. Once you log in and attempt to download the client software, you get redirected to the GridRepublic site. There, in addition to the three projects highlighted by Intel, you'll get access to the full suite of BOINC projects, many with names that don't provide an obvious indication of what the project is all about.

Nintendo 3DS The Nintendo 3DS is arguably the first of the Eighth Generation (as the cognoscenti call the ‘Next Gen’) of games consoles and is distinguished by the fact that it is the only one commonly available to play.
The 3DS has a number of innovations compared to earlier DS models including a motion sensor and gyro sensor that can react according to movement and incline, an analog controller and of course the adjustable-depth 3D effect. On their own each of these is fairly unremarkable – being available in other consoles or gadgets like mobile phones or flatscreen TVs. Together, though, they combine to create something potentially very immersive and flexible enough to create some spectacular new games
Sony PlayStation Vita The PlayStation Vita is another convergence of established technologies – capacitive OLED touchscreen, dual-analog sticks, and internet connectivity. The Vita’s USP will be backward-compatibility with existing titles from the PSP, PS1 Classics (as seen on the Playstation 3) and other downloadable content from the PlayStation Network as well as its own games, distributed on the new NVG flash memory format.
The Vita is an extremely powerful device compared to other portable consoles, with a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 core processor and a SGX543MP4+ graphics processing unit which should lead to some spectacular games, on a par with some of today’s console efforts. The built-in camera is intended for use in augmented reality games, an area that has only been lightly explored so far.
Wii U The Wii changed everything when it launched with its unique WiiMote controllers, now the Wii U could be set to do it again with its Wii U Controller, which is more like a small tablet computer than a game controller. A built-in touchscreen can be used to play stand-alone games as well as offering fine controls for certain types of game unsuited to the WiiMote motion sensors or D-Pad.
The Wii U is the first Nintendo console to display 1080p HD graphics and Nintendo have promised that the new console will take advantage of its powerful multi-core processor – unlike the Wii, which was rather under-powered compared to its rival consoles.
Xbox 720 and PS4 Right now, both of these consoles are in the realms of fantasy as far as most gamers are concerned. Sources within both Microsoft and Sony have reportedly said that the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox are being developed but for now both companies seem intent on squeezing the last drops of gaming juice from the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Both consoles will no doubt incorporate 3D technology quite heavily (one rumour suggested ‘Avatar like’ graphics for the Xbox 360) and we would expect Microsoft’s Kinect motion tracking technology to feature too, along with some PlayStation equivalent.
As for other features, with neither console expected until 2014 at the earliest, we wouldn’t like to bet what new innovations in graphics or immersive controller tech will come along between now and then.
But which one is best? With the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles not even off the drawing board yet it doesn’t seem fair to include them. Of the remaining three, the Vita seems a bit similar to the PSP for our liking while the 3DS has proven rather less impressive in practice with the 3D effect causing us no end of eyestrain and not really adding that much.
Our money, then, is on the as yet unreleased Wii U. It may surprise us and turn out to be a lemon, but the combination of Nintendo’s reputation with the boost in processing power and the new types of game opened up by the Wii U Controller has us intrigued enough to queue up on launch day. Rolling out gradually to Facebook users, the social network is launching a new version of the photo viewer that allows pictures to be displayed at a significantly larger resolution than previous designs. On a typical 15″ laptop, pictures display as large as 960 pixels wide and 720 pixels tall. After the user clicks on a photo, the new interface launches and covers the entire screen with the photo as well as a white space on the right side. Users can like, share or comment on the photo on the right side of the screen. In addition, Facebook is rotating out advertisements underneath the comments as well as sponsored stories.
In order to navigate through a typical Facebook album, the user hovers the mouse over the picture. Two arrows on the left and right side of the picture appear, thus the user can click the arrows to view all pictures in the album. Also appearing on the picture during a mouse hover action, a clear “Like” button can be clicked at the bottom of the picture as well as a tagging button to include names of friends in the picture. In addition, a link to the full album appears at the bottom of the screen which leads to Facebook’s standard album view.
The concept of the photo display is remarkably similar to the basic outline of the Google+ lightbox overlay, but there are several key differences in functionality and design. The Google+ overlay completely blacks out the screen behind the picture rather than the dark gray, translucent overlay that Facebook uses. Also absent from Facebook’s concept, Google+ offers a wide array of photo editing tools such as rotation and color correction within the overlay interface and allows the user to create an Internet meme out of any picture within a Google+ feed. In addition, the Google+ interface includes an option to view the photo’s EXIF data to determine the camera that took the picture as well as a link to download a full size version of the original photo.

Yesterday Twitter upgraded its photo feature by introducing images galleries. According to Twitter, it will pull your pictures from Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram, and other platforms and push them to a dedicated page where you can peruse a user’s personal gallery.
Now, when you view a user’s profile, below their information and above the contacts you have in common, there will be a “recent images – view all” link. This will take you to a collection of their 100 most recent photos posted to Twitter.
In addition to giving its users one more way to use the site, Twitter is also slighting third-party developers – again. We recently discussed how the company has accrued something of a reputation for encouraging app makers to invest their time and attention in building for Twitter, only to repossesses these ideas and spin them into their own, in-house versions. And nowhere has this been more evident than in the case of third-party photo platforms that integrate with Twitter.
As posting images to the site became increasingly popular, so did outside developers’ sites. Twitter didn’t originally include such a feature, so the likes of TwitPic, yFrog, and others became incredibly useful. And these sites are different than Instagram or PicPlz: They were built with the sole intention of pushing your photos to Twitter. The latter have become something of their own social networks, with dedicated users who turn to the site without intentions of pushing images elsewhere. But the Twitter-dedicated applications are the ones that could be suffering very soon.
